Lorry Accident Kills Four, Injures Three in mangalore


Four persons died on the spot and three others were severely injured after a lorry plying from Gadag to Mangalore, carrying cement bags rolled over from a height of around 30 feet at Kumta Mirjan on Wednesday May 2. The lorry driver Dayamanna fled from the spot immediately after the accident.
According to a complaint filed by Hanumant Kavaluru of Gadag in Kumta police station, the lorry driver who drove the vehicle in a haphazard manner hit the Jaddikatte Bridge and rolled over off the side of the road.
The injured were admitted to Kumta Government Hospital and later shifted to Hubli.
The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old lorry cleaner Riyaz, resident of Lakkundi, 45-year-old Gangavva and 42-year-old Basawaraj, residents of Bellur and 46-year-old Zaibullah(46), a resident of Gadag. They were all sitting on the top of the lorry.
The injured have been identified as 45-year-old Kulsum B and 30-year-old Ameena Baigam. Both of them were taken to Hubli in a critical condition, while 20-year-old Hanumantapa has been taken to Kumta hospital.
A case is registered in the Kumta police station.
