Fifteen Killed, 24 Injured in India Truck Accident

India bus accident; March 8, 2013
At least 15 people have been killed and 24 more injured in a truck accident in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in northern India, Indo-Asian news service reports.
Senior police officer Mubashir Latfi says the accident occurred Friday afternoon near the town of Rajouri in India's Jammu-Kashmir state. The area is 140 kilometers (90 miles) northwest of Jammu, one of the state's main cities.
The bus was carrying 35 people, including the driver.
The driver reportedly lost control on the turn and the vehicle fell into a canyon depth of about 90 meters, police say.
Four babies were among the victims. The number of deaths could rise, as some of the 24 hospitalized people are in a critical condition.
India has the world's deadliest roads, with more than 110,000 people killed annually. Most crashes are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles.
