2 killed in building collapse on August 23rd 2013 in rajamundry

Two persons were killed and four others suffered severe injuries after a three-storey building collapsed on the main road here late on Wednesday night. All the victims belong to a family.

A Anjaneyulu, building owner, runs a provisions store on the ground floor while his family occupies the remaining floors of the building. Anjaneyulu closed the store and went upstairs on Wednesday night. A few hours later the entire building caved in resulting in the death of Anjaneyulu and his grandson Yaswanth.

Police and fire services teams rescued the other family members after four hours of rescue operation. The injured, Anjaneyulu's wife, son, daughter-in-law, and another grandson, were rushed to hospital. Eyewitnesses said the building suddenly caved in and the inmates were trapped in the debris. Yaswanth was found dead while Anjaneyulu died on the way to hospital.

Incidentally, the civic body issued notices to the owners of old buildings recently to demolish them as they posed threat to life. It is not clear whether Anjaneyulu received the notice.
