Over 200 Digha-bound vehicles,
including many carrying tourists from Calcutta, were held up for three
hours from 10am on the Digha-Calcutta road on Saturday after a
Howrah-bound private bus fell into a roadside pond, killing two persons.
The vehicles got
stuck as over 500 people from neighbouring areas who joined the rescue
clogged the road at Marichdah, 10km from Contai.
Police and
residents pulled people out of the bus through windows. A crane was
brought from Nandakumar, 50km away, and the bus was fished out.
