Nine persons from two families belonging to Peddashankarampet mandal in Medak district on a pilgrimage to Tirumala were killed when their Innova collided with a lorry near Kukkaladoddi in Railway Kodur constituency, bordering Kadapa and Chittoor districts, on Tuesday.
A 11-year-boy, Devarasetty Shreshta, the lone survivor in the road accident, was rushed to Ruia Hospital at Tirupati with injuries.
Papisetty Ramulu, 60, his wife Yasoda, 50, son Balakrishna 30, daughter-in-law Chandrika 28 and grandson Harish, 4, Ramulu’s brother-in-law Devarasetty Lakshmi Narasimhulu, 40, his wife Jyothi, 30 and son Karthik, 4, and the car driver, Santosh Kumar, died on the spot, police said.
The driver of the lorry, which was on its way from Chennai to Railway Kodur fled after the mishap.
Tirumala Staff Reporter adds: Meanwhile, six pilgrims were injured, one of them seriously, when the vehicle in which they were travelling met with an accident on Tuesday on the first ghat road leading to Tirupati, about 15 km from here.
One of the members of the family, Manjunath (28), who suffered grievous injuries was at the wheel and lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve on the ghat road. The vehicle came to a halt after hitting the parapet wall.
Meanwhile in Adilabad, two persons, traders from Nizamabad district, and five bullocks perished in a road accident at Islamnagar near Ichoda mandal headquarter village in Adilabad in the early hours of Tuesday.
