Clean-up operations after Sunday's accident were underway when a launcher being carried by four cranes crashed to the ground. Six people were injured.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government is waiting for the probe panel's report on the first mishap and the Centre has said that "all precautions" would be taken to prevent accidents. "We will never compromise on safety aspects. We will see to it that all precautions are taken to prevent recurrence of such events," Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy told reporters outside Parliament House.
On the Delhi government's decision not to accept the resignation of Metro Chief E Sreedharan, he said that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had consulted him on the issue. "Now that his resignation has not been accepted, I believe the matter will eventually rest there," he said.
Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan inspected the site today even as clearing operations in the area were going on.
Sreedharan, who resigned on Sunday from the post owning moral responsibility for the mishap, visited the accident site to take stock of the situation.
Rains last night hampered clearing operations at the site where huge cranes are being used to clear the debris.
Water supply in neighbouring areas has been also disrupted as the pillar fell on a water pipeline.
The main road connecting Kalkaji and Moolchand areas in south Delhi is still not open.
