At least six persons were killed on the spot
and seven others injured when the Qualis they were traveling in rammed
into a roadside tree near Mamandur in Renigunta mandal on
Kadapa-Tirupati National Highway in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to police, the victims have been identified as Venkateswarlu, Chennaiah, Buddaiah, Narayanamma, Alluraiah and car driver Ravi. All of them belonged to Prakasam district.
The victims board the Qualis vehicle at Errabalem in Giddalur mandal in Ongole to attend a marriage in hill shrine Tirupati. It is suspected that the accident has occurred after the driver lost control on his vehicle while overtaking another vehicle at Mamandur and hit a roadside tree.
The injured have been shifted to SVR Ruia Hospital in Tirupati and a few of them are said to be in a critical condition.
