Twenty-five pilgrims were injured, four of them seriously, when their bus met with an accident on the ghat road on Sunday. The pilgrims were returning to Tirupati after darshan in the Tirumala hill temple.
Official sources said the driver of the APSRTC bus lost control of the vehicle when he negotiated a sharp curve near the ‘Deer Park' on the old ghat road. The bus first crashed into the parapet wall around the curve and hurtled through a valley before coming to a halt.
The condition of one of the injured, Srinivasa Rao from Karnataka, is said to be very serious.
All those who were trapped inside the mangled mass of the bus were extricated and rushed to the Government-SVRR Hospital here for emergency treatment.
The APSRTC is said to have placed Gopi, the bus driver, under suspension pending a departmental enquiry.
