A minor fire close to the venue where a Backward Classes convention was being organised here on Saturday by the Congress created flutters and briefly marred the proceedings. Important among those who were participating in the convention in the nearby function hall were Ministers Basavaraj Saraiah, K. Parthasarathy besides Tirupati MP Chintha Mohan and Congress candidate M. Venkatramana. What apparently sparked the fire was splinters falling on the thatched roof of a nearby dhaba when the party cadres burst fire works.
The fire which broke out from one of the ornamental huts put up on the premises of the dhaba soon engulfed all the six huts and reduced them to ashes. The fire was put out after fire tenders reached the spot. .
There was no injury to any one.
