Infant among 18 persons killed in three accidents

 Nine persons were killed and two others were seriously injured when a speeding empty iron ore-laden lorry hit a ‘Qualis’ vehicle at Kadirinaidupalli of Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district on Saturday.
According to Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy, all the eleven persons belonged to the family of Mohd. Basith from Kosigi of Mahabubnagar district were travelling in the ill-fated Qualis vehicle to visit the famous dargah at A. S. Peta.
The speeding iron lorry collided head on with the automobile. As a result, nine out of the 11 including the Qualis driver died on the spot.
The SP said that the two severely injured persons as well the dead bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital at Badwel in Kadapa district. “The condition of the two injured persons is critical while driver of the empty iron ore-laden lorry is absconding.” The police are investigating the case and also trying to identify the names of the injured and killed persons.
Pilgrim family Special Correspondent from Tirupati writes: Three persons were killed, two on the spot, when the car in which they were heading towards Tirupati collided head-on with a Thiruvannamalai-bound private bus at Kalroadpalle near Chandragiri, about 25 km from here.
In the accident which occurred in the wee hours on Saturday, Pushpabai (57) and her son Ravi Karthik (26) died instantly, while Prabhu (27), said to be a friend of Karthik, succumbed to injuries in the SVRR General Hospital here. Pushpabai’s husband Krishnamoorthy (59) is said to be battling for life in the hospital. The ill-fated family set out on the pilgrimage on Friday night from Coimbatore.
Labourers killed Nalgonda Staff Reporter writes: Five labourers, including four women, and an infant were killed when a lorry rammed into a DCM van in which they were travelling on the Hyderabad - Vijayawada highway near Nakrekal in the small hours of Saturday. Twenty other passengers in the van also suffered injuries.
Hit by lorry The victims were heading for a village near Vijayawada to work as agricultural labourers when their vehicle was hit by a sand-laden lorry around 2.30 a.m..
The van met with the accident shortly after picking up 35 labourers from Kurumurthi village of Kattangur mandal in Nalgonda district.
They were supposed to be away from their homes for nearly a month.
Those killed included Matangi Muthamma (55), Matangi Yadaiah (30), Utkuri Kalamma (24), Indrakanti Nagamma (45), Indrakanti Devendramm (23) and her one-year-old son.
