Newly-wed couple among six killed in accident

Six members of a family, including a newly-wed couple, were killed in a ghastly road accident near Lanco Industries unit on the Tirupati-Srikalahasti highway on Saturday. The death of a newly-wed couple in the mishap added up to the gloom.
Naresh and Srilekha, hailing from Karimnagar, tied the knot on May 20 and their families were on a pilgrimage to Tirumala. The group of 15 passengers began their journey in a mini bus on Friday evening and reached Srikalahasti on Saturday. After offering prayers at Sri Kalahastheeswara Swamy temple, the families left for Tirumala.
After travelling hardly 8 km from Srikalahasti, the mini bus was hit by a lorry that came on to the road at B.G.Colony near Kapugunneri.
Bride Srilekha, bridegroom’s mother Narasamma, their relatives Odemma, Manjula and Nirmala were killed on the spot, while the bridegroom Naresh died on the way to hospital.
Naresh’s father Rajaiah, his relatives Gangaraju, Latha and the driver Odelu sustained injuries.
Two children in the marriage party had a miraculous escape.
The injured were immediately rushed to the Srikalahasti Area Hospital for treatment. Deputy Superintendent of Police P.Abhishekam (Srikalahasti) rushed to the spot. Srikalahasti Rural police are investigating.
