The Kalka-Shimla Highway saw an accident for the third consecutive day on
Sunday, opposite the Kali Mata temple in Main Market, Kalka.
The
driver of a Haryana Police bus lost control of the vehicle and hit two cars,
before falling into a ditch. Ten people, including eight police personnel,
sustained injuries.
In the
last two days, similar accidents took place on the same spot. On Friday, 10
people had a miraculous escape when a truck overturned, while on Saturday, a
45-year-old woman was crushed to death by a truck.
Sunday's
accident took place around 11.30 am. The police bus was coming from Parwanoo.
"Being
a Sunday, the highway was not that busy. The driver lost his balance and rammed
bus into the two cars, one after another," said an eyewitness. "When
we pulled the injured out of the bus, many were profusely bleeding," he
added.
According
to the bus driver, he could not control the bus because its "brakes
failed". While the first car was parked on the road, two people were
travelling in the second.
Five of
the 10 injured — Umed, Anil Kumar, Jai Singh, Munish and Satish — sustained
severe injuries. After doctors in Kalka said their condition was critical, they
were rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Chandigarh.
Station
House Officer of Kalka Dharamvir Singh said the condition of the injured in
Chandigarh was stable.
