Shimla:
Bad roads, drunken driving, human errors, mechanical failures and
weather conditions were cited as reasons for 3, 479 deaths in road accidents during the past three years in Himachal Pradesh.State
transport minister Mohinder Singh believes that majority (97.84%)
accidents occurred because of drunken driving and human errors.As a
matter of fact, only about 1.52% of these occurred because of bad road
conditions and 0.64% due to mechanical failures.Offering details on
steps taken to minimize such cases, Mohinder Singh said 536 black spots
(accident prone sites) had been identified and were being improved. The
minister said so far, 248 black spots had been taken care of and work
on others was in process.
