Lorry hits a couple of cars and bikes at NAD Kotha Road in the city
Three persons, including a home guard constable, died on
the spot and five others were injured, including one seriously, when
the driver of a lorry lost control and ploughed into the incoming
traffic from the opposite direction here at NAD Kotha Road on Tuesday
night. As per the immediate assessment by the police and eye witnesses
on the spot, the lorry that was moving from the city side to Gajuwaka
first jumped the red signal at the NAD Junction and rammed into the
divider.
The driver then lost control and ploughed
into the incoming traffic. Before ramming into a couple of cars and
bikes, the vehicle ran over a home guard constable on duty. Those killed
were identified as one Ramesh, a lab technician, and Constable Ch.
Srinivas Rao. The identity of the third person was not known till late
night.
The accident occurred around 9 p.m. and the
traffic at the spot came to a standstill for quite some time.
Commissioner of Police J. Poornachandra Rao and other high-ranking
officers visited the spot. The driver of the lorry fled the scene and
the police are investigating the case. The injured were shifted to KGH.
